In 2020, Sony has largely focused on releasing the PlayStation 5. However, the company has not lost sight of its goals and has continued to work on side projects while ensuring the commercialization of its game console. is on all fronts, the company sells headphones, game consoles, televisions, cameras, smartphones, and more.

Recently, Sony notably bought the VOD platform specializing in anime: Crunchyroll. The Japanese company now has a comfortable place in the streaming business. But that’s not all. A few months ago, the brand unveiled a brand new project called Airpeak. During this presentation, it was complicated to really define this project. Sony had not made it clear whether it was going to be a drone, or a dedicated development platform for drones.

This time we’re sure it’s a drone. Sony took advantage of CES 2021 to launch this brand new product. During a virtual conference, Sony presented this drone capable of carrying an Alpha range camera, and doped with AI to provide a stabilized image during flight.

Kenichiro Yoshida, CEO of Sony, wanted to present this innovation in person. He describes this drone as being intended for adventurers and especially image professionals. Sony would therefore intend to enter by the front door in this market largely dominated by its neighbor DJI, or the French Parrot. In the video, we can see that the Airpeak has a kind of landing gear that folds up in flight. The company has announced that its Airpeak drone will go on sale next spring, but was not keen to say more about the price. In view of the purpose and the video rendering, one should expect a price that is certainly very high. I let you admire a selection of images captured by the Sony Airpeak drone.
