The day Tesla could have been bought by Apple

Today, Elon Musk is one of the most powerful and wealthy entrepreneurs on the planet. He who was built in the aftermath of the year 2000 bug with his PayPal service has since become the boss of Tesla and SpaceX, two companies with great potential, especially on the stock market.

But the future has not always been so bright for the South African, who likes to recall in some of his tweets, the dark days of his brand of electric car. He recently explained that Tesla might never have seen the light of day without a last-minute investor, who saved the project on Christmas Eve.

But that’s not the only story the Tesla boss has told about the brand’s past. In a following tweet, the entrepreneur said this week that he, in the darkest hours of his brand, wanted to meet Apple boss Tim Cook to negotiate a buyout of Tesla by the apple brand.

But the CEO of Apple would never have wanted to discuss with Elon Musk, leaving Tesla to have the story that we know him today.

However, the idea of a takeover of Tesla by Apple is rather attractive. And Tim Cook had good reason to follow through on this idea of a takeover. Indeed, in his tweet Elon Musk speaks of a repurchase at one tenth of Tesla’s current value, the brand was (in 2017 at the time of the takeover) not yet established and the name Tesla could very well have been established. ‘erase behind that of the Apple, which would have taken advantage of this takeover to develop the Apple Car more quickly.

We now know that Apple is working on its autonomous electric vehicle project. But to enter the very closed world of the automobile, the Apple brand would seriously consider relying on the technical knowledge and the infrastructures of a large already established manufacturer (as such, the name of Ford or BMW comes back regularly in rumors).

Tesla was surely at the time too young a project, the development of which would have been too expensive for a brand like Apple which could not afford, in the media, to derail such a project.
